While Prezi is a obviously an amazing tool for teachers to use to add visuals to a lecture or lesson, it's even better for students to use to organize, visualize, create, and prove their own learning by making their own Prezis.

What's your best Prezi lesson where students make the Prezintations themselves?

My students have started using Prezi for independent research projects. They love the new platform and are excited to organize it in a meaningful way. We also do a neat activity where I literally tear apart a chapter book and each kid is assigned one chapter to present without reading the other parts. They each make one part of the prezi. It is very interesting to watch the story unfold as they each present.

I REALLY wish their was a good way for Prezi to set up student accounts under a teacher. Especially at the elementary level where monitoring is mandatory.

I agree. What solution did you use for student accounts?

I love the project idea with the book! I've never heard that idea before. Thanks for sharing!

I had them each sign up using their own email in epals but I can't open their accounts really easy.  The easiest ways is just have them sign in under my account.  Several can be on at one time.  But then they can delete other work.  Saving is an issue if they don't put their name, and my account is a mess!  But it works I guess.

I am looking for a way to use PreziU with 5th graders. My concern is the Terms of Use still states that Prezi is for adults only. I am uncomfortable with breaking a rule of that nature since I am in a position as the school leader in the ethical use of technology. Is the age restriction going to be adjusted in PreziU?

Lynn: I completely understand. Here is a way to get your 5th graders accounts that does not violate the terms of service:

1. Create a gmail account, for example, mrsharrisclass@gmail.com

2. Sign up for a Prezi free public account with this gmail address.

3. Log out of Prezi, sign up for another free public Prezi account, but this time use this gmail address: mrsharrisclass+1@gmail.com, the next time use mrsharrisclass+2@gmail.com, etc.

4. Repeat this process until you have enough accounts for each of your students.

Any email that is sent to any of the "+1" accounts will actually go to the root email address, mrsharrisclass@gmail.com, to which you hold the credentials.

Using this scenario, your students are safe from receiving stranger email and your school/district is safe from potentially violating CIPA requirements.

The same technique works with Animoto.com, a fantastic service every teacher should be aware of.

Hope that helps!

Amy

I've used the "gmail +" approach, but what I would love to see is the option of being able to sign up for a class account, where the teacher would get to access every prezi, but students would only access their own or other shared projects. I don't know how it would look, but I think that would be great.

But as for my favorite Prezi from a student: I'm a librarian, and we use it for a project on short stories at our school. One student did a project on the telltale heart and all his words and information created a chalk outline of the body of the old man. It was pretty cool.

It would be nice to have a "class account" though in the high school level that's less of an issue

I'm still a Prezi newbie myself, but I have had a student submit a prezi as a part of a presentation: http://prezi.com/7gmq1fefmmly/copy-of-congress-of-vienna/

I have had my high school sociology students create a prezi to assess what they've learned during a chapter on adolescent personality development. This works as a really great formative assessment for this particular unit because the objectives deal mostly with students being able to analyze & apply information rather than recall specific concepts and vocab terms. I had my students work in groups of 2-3 and use the collaboration aspect of prezi. This is wonderful as it cuts down on my grading, gives them a basis to discuss/reflect on what they've learned with their peers and ensure that all group members are active rather than watching one person type.

Every one seem to be able to use account for their students. I would like to upgrade a student account with a gmail address. Our school don't have any email adress for their students. When I want to upgrade to educationnal account with my gmail, it sait that's not an educationnal domain. It's seem to be good for you. I probably miss something. How can I use gmail email adress to create an educationnal prezi account for my students. They are enough old to create it by themself.

Hi Loren, yes this is also a request that we are well aware of. Thanks for letting us know. I will start a new thread for feature requests here so you can discuss such matters with others and our product team can follow better too.

thank you Amy for sharing that concept, it looks great !

thanks also for the gmail trick (or tip ? not sure about the good word).
this is a very good one to know.
@Loren : you have the edu account, free account is enough for the students I think.

I have had my students create a Prezi featuring a specific piece of art of the Renaissance. Here is one of the better ones: http://prezi.com/bcjotaqhdpdv/copy-of-agony-in-the-garden-giovanni-bellini/ Overall, students enjoyed using the Prezi but I did not have as much luck getting students to push the limits of Prezi. I had students create free account using their personal or family emails.

What a cool use of Prezi! Glad I kept reading until I got to the actual painting where the student shows who the characters are and does some analysis. All art history students should use Prezi this way! Thanks for sharing.

I have students create a Prezi over a Psychological disorder. I ask that they try to make their Prezi more image-based with as little text as possible. I really want the Prezi to be an aid more than their whole presentation. The interesting thing about this was how personal students got with this. Many of them chose disorders that they personally, or somebody in their own family had. They were then more than happy to discuss with their peers. This made for an excellent summative assignment towards the end of the semester in Psychology.
